Zambian music superstar Yo Maps Yo has stepped in to support a self-sponsored university student whose story recently touched the nation.

The young woman, a daughter of a house caretaker, had approached IdaCh TV Zambia seeking help with basic school necessities. In an emotional account, she revealed that she walks from Matero to Zambia Medical Royal University, wearing floters to preserve her only pair of shoes. To raise tuition and survival money, she sells fritters and washes people’s clothes. She had only asked for one pair of shoes and five books to continue her education.

Less than 24 hours after the story was published, Yo Maps responded with a life-changing gesture. The award-winning artist has pledged a full 100% scholarship to cover her education, along with K1,000 monthly support to assist with her daily needs.
