Public and private colleges of education opening postponed to January 29, 2024, by the Ministry of Education.

Due to the escalating cholera cases in the country, the Ministry of Education has taken the necessary step of postponing the reopening of public and private colleges of education to January 29.

With the country reporting a total of 8,724 cases since the outbreak in October last year, the decision to delay the college reopening aligns with the imperative to curb the spread of the disease.

Noriana Muneku, the Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Ministry of Education, emphasized the importance of compliance with this directive by all colleges of education in a released statement.

This decision follows the recent announcement by Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima, who postponed the opening of primary and secondary schools for the first term from January 8 to January 29.

Ms. Muneku clarified that the first term holiday for colleges of education under the Ministry of Education would be shortened to two weeks instead of the usual four. Consequently, the colleges will close on April 26, 2024, and reopen on May 13, 2024, for the second term as per the original schedule.

During the extended holiday period, all College Principals are urged to ensure a thorough cleaning of their respective institutions and the installation of all hygiene requirements before the specified reopening date.
