MWEETWA ON THE JUDICIARY RESCINDING DECISION TO BROADCAST WITCHCRAFT CASE: I AM ALSO WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED
As trial commences in a case where two wítch doctors where to use a chàmeleôn and other £vil powers to ki!ll President Hakainde Hichilema, Government Spokesperson has wondered why the judiciary rescinded its decision to broadcast the court proceedings on the national television among many other platforms.
Prior to the judiciary rescinding the decision, their initial move to broadcast the matter live was met with numerous questions from the public.
Many wondered what significance the case carried and questioned why certain cases of public interest such as the gold scandal and the legal drama in the Patriotic Front (PF) did not go live.
Featuring on Hot FM’s “Hot Seat” this morning, Mr Mweetwa said the executive had no hand in the decision the Judiciary made.
“But as a citizen, I am also wondering what happened. But as government spokesperson, I have not yet been furnished with the reasons why the court made that U-turn and I think but I think that there is still room for people to be updated,” he said.
He said the Judiciary operates independent, a statement which has been challenged severally by stakeholders.
Asked what President Hakainde Hichilema’s view on the same was, the Minister said “from a governmental point of view, that is not one of those important issues where you really want to find out what the President’s reaction is because it is in the domain of the judiciary, just like the judiciary had broadcast the eligibility case and there were questions why are they broadcasting this issue and so on.”
He added that “perhaps that is the reason the judiciary wanted the citizens to follow because it is almost like unprecedented. But, only to the extent that it is going to the courts of law.”
