Lusaka boyfriend arrested for suspected murder of girlfriend!

Police in Kabwata have launched an investigation into a suspected murder involving a 37-year-old man Maybin Muliye, who brought his girlfriend’s lifeless body to the University Teaching Hospital claiming she had taken insecticide.

According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, the report was initially filed at the UTH Police Post on June 10, 2025 around 23:30 hours. The case was later referred to Maxwell Sibongo Police Post under Kabwata Police Station for further investigation.

The deceased identified as Sipiwe Nyirenda had reportedly only known Muliye for six days before moving in with him to cohabit. Muliye told police that she consumed insecticide used in the home get rid cockroaches and later collapsed. He claimed she had asked for water around 20:00 hours and when he returned, she was unresponsive with white foam around her mouth.

However, due to inconsistencies in his account, police grew suspicious and detained Muliye on suspicion of murder.

Officers who visited the residence in Kamwala South found a bottle of insecticide. A preliminary inspection of the body showed no visible injuries. The body has since been deposited in the UTH mortuary pending postmortem.

“We are appealing to members of the public who may have information about the deceased or her relatives to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations,” said Hamoonga.
