FC Barcelona might be poised to bolster their Champions League campaign with a potential ‘new signing.’

FC Barcelona is poised to welcome back a pivotal player for the Champions League, potentially serving as a significant ‘new signing’ for Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

Despite two unsuccessful attempts to advance in the UCL knockout phase, the legendary midfielder succeeded on the third try, having won the trophy four times as a player. Xavi is set to resign from his head coach position on June 30, concluding an unimpressive 2023/2024 campaign as La Liga holders.

However, a successful European run could ensure a positive departure after recent disappointments on the continent.

Barcelona, having finished level on points with Porto, secured the top spot in Group H with decisive home and away victories against the Portuguese team. In the last 16, they are set to face Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, with the first leg scheduled at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium on February 12 and the return fixture in Montjuic on March 12.

Xavi’s squad receives a boost as goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen returns to training, poised to start against Granada in the league on Sunday after recovering from a lower back surgery that kept him sidelined.

As reported by AS, there are indications of additional reinforcements, with Raphinha participating in the Sunday session at the Joan Gamper CT.

His targeted comeback date is set for the showdown in Naples. In Spain, such returns are often likened to a ‘new signing,’ a logic that could be extended to Raphinha.

Having been sidelined for eight matches since a mid-January muscle injury, Lamine Yamal seized the opportunity to secure a starting position in the first XI.

Xavi might hesitate to thrust the 16-year-old into such a high-stakes match, especially in a hostile stadium. If the former Leeds United player, Raphinha, is deemed fit, Xavi may opt to select him instead.
