Copper Queens need over K5 million for Olympics

FOOTBALL House is lobbying for over US$200,000 [K5 million] to help the Copper Queens have a good outing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Zambia will make a return to the Olympics having first played at the global games in the 2020 Tokyo edition.

This time around, they will play against the United States of America (USA), 2023 World Cup Co-hosts Australia and Germany.

Coach Bruce Mwape’s laces will start their campaign against the USA on July 25 in Nice, before taking on Australia in the same city three days later. Their final group game will be against Germany on July 31 in Saint-Étienne.

Speaking at the reconvened Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga said the association wants to give the team the best preparation.

“Following the qualification of the Senior Woman’s National Team to the Olympics – Paris 2024, the Executive Committee committed to keep the team’s aspirations in the tournament by setting up a robust preparation plan that includes local and international camps with high profile international friendlies in Europe.

“To this cause, the Executive Committee through Secretariat has applied for project funding to the tune of $234,283.79. We are hopeful that working with other stakeholders we will give our team the best possible preparations,” Kamanga said.
