BUS TO SOUTH AFRICA BURNT IN MAZABUKA

A South Africa-bound bus operated by Shalom Bus Services was completely burnt in Mazabuka while en route to Johannesburg.
The incident occurred at the Ten Miles area in Mazabuka, along the Lusaka–Mazabuka road.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo reported that 18 passengers and crew members escaped unharmed, and all luggage was removed safely.
Namalongo stated that the bus, an Irizar Scania driven by Edwin Hamulonga, left Lusaka around 04:00 hours.
He explained that near Ten Miles, a motorist alerted the driver, who parked the bus and inspected the rear, discovering that the engine compartment had caught fire.
Namalongo added that efforts to extinguish the fire using onboard extinguishers were unsuccessful.
He further noted that police and fire brigade officers from Mazabuka Police Station and Zambia Sugar Company’s Fire Department responded, but the bus was completely destroyed, with the cause of the fire yet to be established.
