Following the 66th Grammy Awards, where Zambian artists were notably absent from nominations, renowned rapper and songwriter Bobby East has shared his take on the results.

The highly anticipated event, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, drew attention to Bobby East’s emotional reaction. In a candid moment with fans, he acknowledged the significance of the votes in determining outcomes.

Taking to Twitter on February 5, 2024, Bobby East expressed his thoughts, stating, “I don’t know who exactly ‘The academy’ is, but they need to get some African voters in that Afrobeats category real quick before they upset a lot of people. Otherwise, they will only vote for the version of our culture that suits their palate.” His words captured the complex feelings surrounding the outcome.

In response, Recording Academy president Harvey Mason defended the awards’ integrity, emphasizing that winners are chosen solely by the voting body’s opinions. He highlighted the importance of quality over commercial success in determining the results.
