Kawambwa Town Council today handed over two banana boats to residents of Kuyumba and Buyaka communities in Pambashe Constituency, providing a vital lifeline for safe water transport in the flood-prone Kawambwa District.
The event, held in Pambashe, was graced by Guest of Honour Hon. Justine Kapema, the area’s Member of Parliament. Also in attendance were Council Chairperson Mr. Titus Musa, the Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC) Chairperson, and several councilors.
Procured through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the sturdy banana boats address long-standing challenges faced by locals who rely on rivers for transport, fishing, and daily errands. “These boats will save lives by offering a reliable and safe mode of crossing waters, especially during the rainy season,” said Hon. Kapema during the handover ceremony.
Community leaders from Kuyumba and Buyaka expressed gratitude, noting that the donation would reduce risks associated with makeshift rafts and canoes. One resident remarked, “We’ve lost too many people to drownings; these boats are a true blessing.”
The initiative underscores the CDF’s role in delivering tangible infrastructure to rural areas, boosting mobility and economic activities like farming and trade.
